Bellville Salon Signage

A beauty studio in Bellville needed signage that felt neat, calm and easy to read from the reception area. We designed and made a wall logo, a treatment menu board and shelf display details that suited the space and the way the team works day to day.

A Bellville beauty studio needed clear, tidy signage

The client runs a busy beauty studio in Bellville, serving walk-ins and booked appointments across the week. Their main need was simple on paper but important in practice: signage that looked refined enough for the treatment room area, but still held up to the pace of a working salon where staff move quickly and clients need to find information fast.

The brief covered three items. First, a wall logo for the reception side of the studio. Second, a treatment menu board that could be read without stepping close to the counter. Third, small shelf display details for retail and service messaging. The owner wanted everything to feel cohesive, with matching fonts and finishes, and no clutter on the walls.

  • Client type: beauty studio
  • Area: Bellville, Cape Town
  • Use: reception, treatment list, shelf display
  • Style: clean, calm, professional

What made the brief practical rather than decorative

The studio had a few constraints that shaped the job. The wall behind reception had limited fixing points, so the logo needed to be light enough for secure installation without overloading the surface. The menu board also had to sit where glare from the front windows would not make it hard to read during the day. On top of that, the client wanted a natural wood look, but not a finish that would mark easily from fingerprints or cleaning products.

Bellville can get warm in summer, and the studio also uses air conditioning through the day. That meant we had to think about movement in the wood, especially on longer panels. We selected the material thickness and sealing method with that in mind, and kept the layout balanced so the pieces would stay straight and easy to maintain. There was also a tight opening week in the schedule, so timing mattered as much as the final appearance.

  • Limited wall fixing points
  • Daylight glare from the front windows
  • Need for a surface that cleans well
  • Short turnaround before opening week

Laser-cut pieces made for reception and retail flow

We supplied a layered wall logo, a menu board with engraved treatment names and pricing areas, plus small shelf signage for product and service callouts. The logo was cut from quality timber panel and finished in layers for depth. The menu board used clean engraving so the text stayed sharp and did not rely on stickers or printed film that can lift over time. For the shelf display details, we kept the format small and readable from across the room, which works well in a salon where people are often standing and moving.

The board layout was planned around the studio’s real use. Treatment names needed space, but the pricing also had to be easy to update later if the salon changed offerings. We left enough room in the design for that, while keeping the overall look neat. Everything was prepared for easy handling and safe packing, because the items had to travel from our Somerset West base into Cape Town without chipping or rubbing.

  • Layered wall logo for reception
  • Engraved treatment menu board
  • Small shelf display signs
  • Protective packing for courier delivery

How the job moved from proof to installation

From the first enquiry to dispatch, this Bellville salon signage project ran over three weeks. In week one, we discussed sizing, wall space and the treatment list. We then prepared a proof showing the logo scale, board layout and the shelf pieces together so the client could check how the set would work as one group. In week two, production started once the layout was approved. Shailen handled the laser cutting, Marli checked the artwork details, and Ruan completed sanding and finishing so the surfaces felt smooth in the hand.

Week three was for final inspection, packing and dispatch. Leah arranged the courier side and made sure the parts were packed for a clean handover. Lesedi kept the client updated through the process, while Kobus oversaw the sign-off on the overall job. There was one small adjustment to the text spacing on the menu board after the first proof and it improved the balance nicely without adding delay.

  • Week 1: brief, measurements and proof
  • Week 2: laser cutting and finishing
  • Week 3: packing, dispatch and delivery

Why the finish worked well in a working salon

The final set gave the studio a more organised front area and made the pricing easier to find at a glance. The wall logo now gives the reception zone a proper centre point, while the menu board helps clients check treatments without asking staff to repeat the list. The shelf details also helped tidy the retail side, which was useful because the owner wanted fewer loose cards and signs around the counter.

From a practical point of view, the pieces were chosen for routine use. The sealed timber finish is easy to wipe down, and the engraved lettering stays visible in normal salon lighting. That matters in a space where water, product residue and daily cleaning are part of the day. The client was also pleased that the set suited the studio’s calm colour palette without looking plain or cold.

  • Improved reception presentation
  • Clearer treatment pricing for clients
  • Cleaner shelf presentation
  • Easy to wipe down during daily cleaning

What we would carry forward on a similar salon signage project

If we were doing a similar salon sign set again, we would keep the same approach: measure the wall properly, plan for viewing distance, and choose a finish that handles both humidity and regular cleaning. For beauty studios, it also helps to think about the route clients take through the space. A sign that looks good on a mock-up is not enough if it gets lost behind a plant, a shelf unit or a mirror.

We would also suggest setting aside a little room in the design for future menu changes, because salon treatments often shift over time. That makes updates easier and avoids a full remake later. For Bellville and the wider Cape Town area, this kind of signage works best when it is made for daily use first, and decoration second. That practical order usually gives the best result, and it saves time when the studio gets busy.

  • Measure for real viewing distance
  • Allow for future service changes
  • Plan around mirrors, shelves and lighting
  • Choose finishes that suit daily cleaning
