Laser Services

LaserCrafts offers practical design, cutting and finishing services for clients who need custom wooden pieces made professionally. Services cover single personalised items, repeat production and project-ready signage sets.

What our laser services cover

Our laser services are set up for people and businesses that need wooden pieces made neatly, on time and ready to use. We work from our Somerset West base for clients in Stellenbosch, Cape Town, Paarl, Hermanus and further afield by courier. Some orders are small and personal, others are for shops, weddings, offices or events and need multiple matching items with consistent size and finish.

The work can start with a simple idea, a rough sketch, a logo file or a clear description of what you want. We then work through size, material thickness, lettering, fixing methods and final use so the item suits the space or occasion. If it is going outdoors or near the coast, we will also factor in finish choices and how the piece should be cared for in damp or salty air.

Choosing the right service for your job

Not every order needs the same process. A single gift may only need design, cutting and light finishing, while a larger signage job may need layered parts, test samples and careful assembly. If you are unsure where to begin, we help you choose the right route before production starts so there is less back and forth later.

For custom gifts, the focus is usually on personal detail and presentation. For shops and businesses, it is often about legibility, mounting and making sure the piece fits the wall, shelf or counter. For events, the priority may be a matching set that arrives together, packed securely and ready for setup. That is how we keep jobs practical rather than overcomplicated.

Laser cutting and wood engraving with clean detail

Our laser cutting is used where accuracy matters, especially on lettering, shapes, slots and layered parts. Wood engraving is a good choice when the design needs fine detail, names, dates or a logo worked into the surface. The right approach depends on the look you want and how much depth or contrast is needed. We can advise on that before cutting starts.

Because wood responds differently depending on grain and density, we check the material and adjust the process to suit the job. Small text, repeated shapes and tighter joins need careful setup, and that is where experience helps. It saves time later and reduces the need for hand correction. We also keep practical limits in mind, such as what can travel safely in a courier box without damage.

Layered signs, branding pieces and event sets

Layered sign making is useful when a client wants more presence than a flat board can give. It works well for wedding welcome signs, shop interiors, reception areas and feature pieces in homes. By combining cut layers and engraved elements, we can build up a sign that reads clearly from a distance and still looks tidy up close.

For businesses, interior branding pieces can include wall-mounted logos, directional signs, counter details and display items for launches or trade counters. Event sign sets often need matching wording across several pieces, so consistency is important. We keep the same fonts, spacing and sizing across the set so the full job feels properly planned. If needed, we can supply the pieces ready for your installer or venue team.

Assembly, finishing and packing for courier delivery

Finishing can make the difference between a good cut piece and a polished final product. We handle assembly, sanding, fitting and final checks before dispatch so the order arrives in usable condition. Some jobs only need a clean finish, while others require component alignment, glued layers or protective packing for transport. We also think about how the piece will be installed and whether it needs hanging points or separate parts.

Courier packing is part of the service because wooden items need proper protection, especially on longer routes. Orders going to Cape Town, Durbanville, Strand, Gordon's Bay, Paarl or Hermanus are packed to reduce movement and surface marks. For coastal deliveries, careful wrapping matters even more because humidity and salt air can affect untreated edges. If a job is urgent, let us know early so we can plan the run and avoid delays.

Working with LaserCrafts on a custom order

Our team handles the process from first enquiry through to dispatch. Marli helps with design direction, Shailen manages the laser machine, Ruan handles finishing, Leah coordinates dispatch and courier movement, Lesedi manages client communication, and Anele keeps production organised. Kobus oversees the Somerset West operation and the flow of work through the shop. That setup helps us move from idea to finished piece without unnecessary confusion.

To get started, send through your request using the enquiry form on our contact page and include as much detail as you can. Size, quantity, deadline, wording and any reference images all help. If you are across the Western Cape or elsewhere in South Africa, we can talk through what is possible before production begins. It is a practical way to order if you need one gift, 50 items, or a full signage set for a site or event.
