How our Somerset West team works together
LaserCrafts is run by a small team that handles design, laser cutting, finishing and dispatch in one place. That matters when you need a gift for a wedding in Stellenbosch, a shop sign in Cape Town or a bulk order sent to Hermanus because it keeps the details consistent from the first proof to the last box packed.
Kobus Truter leads the business and keeps the production side moving with a practical eye on timelines, materials and customer needs. He works closely with the team so each order is checked for size, finish and suitability before it leaves our Somerset West base.
- Orders are handled with clear wording and simple steps
- Files, sizes and engraving details are checked before cutting
- Finishing, packing and courier prep are done in house
Design, client service and creative direction
Marli Botha is our Design Consultant and is often the first person to shape an idea into something workable. She helps clients choose the right layout, font style and material thickness for wooden gifts, layered signs and decor pieces, whether the order is for a nursery, a wedding table, or a retail counter. She knows when a simple shape will read better than a detailed one and that saves time and waste.
Lesedi Ramaboa leads Client Services and keeps communication steady from enquiry to dispatch. She is the person who makes sure details are captured properly, that special requests are understood, and that clients get realistic lead times, especially when there is a deadline tied to an event or opening day. If a client needs a few options before approving a final version she keeps that process organised and easy to follow.
- Personalisation details are kept accurate for names, dates and wording
- Creative consultations are practical and focused on what will work
- Clients in Somerset West, Gordon's Bay, Strand and beyond get the same level of care
Production, cutting and finishing
Shailen Perumal runs the laser machine work and is responsible for clean cutting, consistent engraving and accurate repeat production. His work covers everything from a single keepsake to a full run of event signage sets or corporate pieces, with careful attention to material behaviour so edges stay neat and details stay crisp. In a coastal area like Somerset West, it helps to know how timber and moisture can affect a job, especially when items are destined for homes close to the sea.
Ruan Nel handles finishing and assembly, bringing each item to its final stage with sanding, joining, glue-up and touch-ups where needed. He checks that layered signs sit properly, that hanging points are secure and that the finish is tidy before packing. That last stage makes a big difference when a client is giving a gift, placing a sign in a shop window or sending an order to a customer in another province.
- Laser cutting for names, signage and decor pieces
- Wood engraving for detail, labels and personal messages
- Assembly and finishing for layered and multi-part items
Dispatch, packing and courier readiness
Leah Jacobs coordinates dispatch and courier packing, which is where many orders are won or lost in the final stretch. She makes sure each item is protected properly for road transport, labelled clearly and packed in a way that suits courier handling. That is especially important for delicate pieces, larger signs and bulk orders heading out to Cape Town, Paarl, Durbanville or further nationwide.
Her work also supports the flow between production and delivery areas, so orders for Stellenbosch, Strand, Hermanus and Gordon's Bay are grouped and prepared with the correct paperwork and packaging. If a client is working to a venue date, store opening or gifting deadline, this part of the process keeps things moving without drama.
What each person brings to your order
Every order passes through several hands, and that is part of what gives our work its consistency. A wedding sign, a corporate thank-you gift or a set of shop labels may start as an idea in one conversation but it is shaped by the whole team before it leaves us.
- Kobus Truter: business direction and production oversight
- Marli Botha: design support and layout guidance
- Lesedi Ramaboa: client communication and order coordination
- Shailen Perumal: laser cutting and engraving
- Ruan Nel: finishing, assembly and quality checks
- Leah Jacobs: packing, dispatch and courier preparation
That mix of roles means we can handle custom design, prototype samples, bulk order production and courier packing without passing the work around to separate companies. Clients get one team that understands the brief from start to finish, which is helpful when there are names to check, dates to meet and a fair bit of back and forth before final approval.
Meet the LaserCrafts team in the Western Cape
People come to LaserCrafts for personalised wooden gifts, signs and decor, but they stay because the process is straightforward and the team is easy to work with. Whether the order is for a home in Somerset West, a wedding in Stellenbosch, a shop in Cape Town or a corporate delivery in Paarl, the same practical approach applies. We keep an eye on detail, cost and timing and try to make the whole thing simple from start to finish.
Our team understands local conditions too, from coastal humidity to load-shedding delays and the need for packaging that travels well by courier. That practical knowledge helps us recommend the right material and finish for each job so the final piece looks right and lasts well.
