Made to guide guests and match the room
Wedding table numbers do more than mark a seat. They help guests find their table quickly, keep the service moving, and tie in with the rest of your decor. At LaserCrafts we make each set to order in wood, with clean laser cut lettering, engraved numbering, or layered styles that stand out without looking busy.
These pieces work well for farm weddings, hotel receptions, chapel halls, wine estate functions and marquee events. We can keep the finish simple and natural, or add a painted face, stained edges or a layered base to suit your colour scheme. If you are planning a wedding in Stellenbosch, Cape Town, Paarl, Hermanus or the surrounding area, we can prepare a small set or a larger run for bigger guest counts.
- Suitable for 5 to 200 plus tables
- Options for freestanding, slotted or mounted styles
- Made for indoor use and sheltered outdoor settings
Sizes, shapes and numbering options
Most couples choose table numbers between 120 mm and 220 mm high, depending on how far the tables sit from the entrance or service point. A 150 mm freestanding number is easy to read on round tables, while a taller 200 mm style is useful for long reception layouts or venues with higher centrepieces. We also make custom widths for rectangular tables and top tables.
The number itself can be cut through the wood, engraved into the face, or added as a separate layer for more depth. You can choose Arabic numbers, Roman numerals, or a combination where the main guest tables use one style and the top table uses another. If you want a more personal touch, we can add surname initials or a short date line at the base.
- Common materials: birch ply, MDF, pine and hardwood veneer board
- Thickness: 3 mm, 6 mm or layered builds up to 12 mm
- Finish options: natural, stained, sealed, painted or mixed finish
For venues where the light changes through the day, a matte finish is often better than gloss because it reduces reflection from candles and photography lighting.
Where they suit and how they sit on the table
Wedding table numbers are useful anywhere guests need clear direction and a neat finish. They suit centrepiece tables, family tables, grazing tables, sweetheart tables and escort table displays. If your setup includes floral arrangements, candles or menu cards, we can shape the base so the number stays visible without crowding the setting.
For table top use, we usually make the base wide enough to stand securely on linen, wood or acrylic runners. If the venue is windy, such as an open veranda or coastal space in Hermanus or Gordon’s Bay, we can add a broader foot or a small backing stand. For indoor halls, a compact base keeps the look tidy and reduces the chance of knocking during service.
- Freestanding base for standard reception tables
- Slotted stand for easy packing and transport
- Mounted plaque style for easels, plinths or welcome tables
Installation, handling and what power is needed
These table numbers do not need power, gas or on site installation. They arrive ready to place, which keeps setup simple for venue staff, wedding planners and family helpers. You only need to unpack them carefully and position them with the rest of the table decor.
Because they are made from wood, it is best to avoid direct placement next to open flame. Keep them a safe distance from candles, burners and sparklers. If your venue uses fairy lights or battery candles, there is no issue. We can also supply protective packing so each number stays separate during transport, especially when the order is going by courier to Johannesburg, Durban or smaller towns outside the Western Cape.
For venues with strict pack in and pack out times, we label the full set clearly so tables can be numbered in sequence. That saves time when the function team is working under pressure and the room needs to be ready quickly.
Care, cleaning and after-event storage
Wooden table numbers hold up well when they are kept dry and stored flat. After the wedding, wipe them with a soft dry cloth to remove dust or fingerprints. If you need to clean off a mark, use a lightly damp cloth and dry it straight away. Do not soak the wood or leave it in direct sun for long periods, especially in hot coastal conditions where humidity can affect the finish.
For future use, keep each number wrapped in tissue, paper or bubble wrap and store them in a box with dividers. That makes them easy to reuse for anniversaries, vow renewals or hotel events. If any piece gets chipped in transit or during setup, we can usually advise on touch up and replacement for just that number rather than remaking the full set.
- Keep away from water, damp grass and open flame
- Store flat in a dry box between events
- Use a soft cloth only, no harsh cleaners
What to check when placing your order
Before ordering, confirm your final guest count and ask your venue whether they prefer numbers, names or both. It helps to know if the tables are round, long or mixed, because that affects the size and stand style. You should also decide whether you want all numbers in one finish or a mix, for example plain wood for guest tables and a more detailed version for the top table.
We recommend sending your table plan early, especially if the wedding is close to peak season in the Western Cape. That gives us time for design approval, cutting, finishing and courier packing. If you need a sample before production, we can make a prototype so you can check the colour, size and readability before the full set is cut.
- Check the final table count plus 1 or 2 spares
- Confirm the font style and number format
- Tell us if the venue is indoor, outdoor or coastal
- Share the wedding date and delivery suburb early
Clients usually reach us through the enquiry form on our contact page, and we will take it from there with clear sizing, proofing and packing for your event.
